The Building Process
Using RollCalls state-of-the-art mapping technology that brings school bus route planning into the digital world. Bus stops are created using verified real addresses, then by simply dragging and dropping stops into routes schools are able to create large networks very quickly.
RollCall has a plethora of ways to add students into the system, it can be as simple as uploading an excel spreadsheet. However we also partner with some great school management systems such as Sentral and TASS. Our real-time integrations make populating student data seamless and up-to-date.
RollCall has a fantastic parent app built to allow parents to manage all aspects of their child's bus travel. They can book their child's buses, alert the school of an absence, take care of payments and track their child to and from school.
Now the RollCall system is all setup we can start allocating students to the correct routes and stops. This will update across our applications:
- Student Cards will be updated to allow them to scan on and off buses. (Similar to Opal and Miki cards).
- The bus driver application will have the names of each student and the stops they are allocated to.
- Through the cloud admin application staff will be able to produce full manifests at the click of a button.

This is where the magic happens, as the student taps onto the bus many things happen at once:
- Parents are instantly notified of their child's scan and are able to track the buses movements from their app.
- Schools & Bus Companies are instantly updated through our cloud admin application, fares are applied and manifests are filled and our school bus tracker starts. Staff are able to track each bus through the dashboard and see exactly which students are on their way to school.
- Drivers are informed as to whether the student is on the right bus and at the correct stop.
- The RollCall School bus tracker gives all parties the visibility needed for peace of mind.
As the bus travels from point A to B the bus company has multiple functions at their disposal:
- Staff know which students are travelling on which bus.
- They can track the bus journeys in real-time on an easy-to-read map.
- The bus company will receive alerts if any journey isn't going exactly to plan.
- Bus companies can send an automated alert to all parents on a particular bus if there is a problem.
Once the student has made it safely to their destination and scans off the bus RollCall will immediately update:
- Parents will be notified of their child's arrival at the specified destination, with the students account being updated with any fares.
- Staff will be updated with real-time alerts updating their system.
- Drivers are alerted if the student is getting off at the right stop or not.

After consultation with several schools and bus companies, RollCall has developed Bus Guardian which is a system that helps to ensure that no child has been left on the bus. It does this by enforcing the bus driver (or other supervisors) to walk to the back of the bus and tap onto a RollCall control board positioned there.
All this information can be tracked centrally on a dashboard and reports to ensure that all drivers have checked their bus before leaving. This makes it virtually impossible for a bus driver to finish their run without walking the bus and checking for students.

RollCall System Hardware
A central feature of RollCall's solution is the physical interaction and use of near-field communication (NFC). RollCall's school bus tracker relies on a Smart Device that is securely placed in each bus.
- Students scan their student cards or NFC tags on the Smart Device.
- Smart Device holds all bus route information including stops, student details and student stop allocation.
- Using NFC technology RollCalls Smart Device is able to check whether a student is taking the correct course of travel instantly.
Students tap on and off the school bus using either RollCall NFC tags or simply using their student cards.
- RollCall can provide NFC tags for all bus riding students, this NFC tag will correspond to each students profile in the RollCall system.
- Through our partners such as PPC and MonitorWA schools are easily able to hook up their current student cards to our system.
